Somewhere in the stacksIt’s all about the music…
Do you ever get chills or goosebumps when you hear a song? I do because I LOVE music. I plan trips around record stores and seeing new bands perform live. I've spent more Saturdays than I can count elbow-deep in a record store's dollar bin looking for something I've never listened to.
My happy place is being at home with the lights low, my phone in the other room, and a record on the turntable — that's my zen. Vinyl isn't just nostalgia for me. It's the one format that makes you sit down and actually listen to an album start to finish.
Living in the music capital of the world and attending decades of Austin shows has also turned me into an accidental historian of this city's venues — the ones still standing and the ones we lost.
Whether you're new to collecting records or just love going to shows I hope you enjoy some of the tips and recommendations I'll be posting here. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or have suggestions.

Why "zen"?
Because the ritual is the point. Sliding the record out, hitting it with the brush, cueing the arm, those first seconds of run-in groove before the music starts. Twenty-two minutes a side, no shuffle, no skip. The format forces presence — and presence is the whole practice. The records are just how I get there.
